Part of our core mission at Packet is to provide access to un-opinionated, on-demand, bare metal compute. When Packet first launched, we pushed the envelope in providing industry-best install times of bare metal infrastructure in under 10 minutes. As use cases have expanded and applications have evolved, it has become necessary to scale applications and workload faster.
We’re happy to announce that today we've released a major ugrade to our provisioning system that enables seriously fast installations. In fact, once we roll this out, most machine types and operating systems should provision in under 60 seconds. Whether you’re auto-scaling your application or bare metal compute is one step in a long chain of a build process, you can enjoy must faster provisioning times - in many cases faster than what you would get with a virtualized cloud.
The rollout is starting in EWR1 on our t1.small config, with Ubuntu 16.04 and CentOS7 getting the boost first. In the coming days we'll expand this to more facilities, more configs and then more operating systems.
